My passion for working with others is rooted in a belief and experience that recovery from mental health and addiction is possible. I am devoted to share with families what was given to my own family; care, support, education, and truths about addiction. I believe work within a family system drastically improves the outcome of the loved one struggling. I have had the opportunity to work in many levels of care and leadership within a recovery process.
I held an Executive Business Development position at a nationally recognized treatment program for over a decade. This experience of helping clients through an entire treatment episode gave me a unique lens on a recovery system. I have also held an Executive Director position with an intervention, case management, and coaching company to further my experience. My personal and professional history offers me an understanding of a full continuum of care, with the ability to navigate each unique case we work.
We founded The Sage Collaborative because we value understanding the power of prevention and proactive planning to contest an often-familiar reactive response to addiction and mental health crisis. We believe treatment should fit the client, not the client fitting the treatment. We believe family work is crucial in understanding each individual role and developing healthy boundaries. Often clients experience multiple treatment episodes and can be frustrated with the mental health and addiction field. I value relationships with the families we work with, but just as importantly, the professionals and programs we work with. Professional referrals must be as unique as the families and clients we work with. I find purpose in helping families navigate situations that feel devastating and are often distressing to the whole family system. Change in reactive behavior within healthy confines devoted to wellness throughout the entire family, is success.
I believe in mindful leadership that stems from consistency, education, communication, integrity and follow through. I am dedicated to ensuring our company grows internally and remains current on industry shifts.
I reside in the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado. I enjoy being dynamic in both the recovery community as well as in my personal world. I am grateful for a second chance at a life that allows me to enjoy snowboarding, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and spending time with my wife, our wonderful dog and my friends and family.
My intial exposure to the behavioral health field started as client. My intial exposure to the behavioral health field started as client. As a “distinguished” alumnus of seven different treatment centers, it is safe to say that I do not have a “one and done” recovery story. Undeniably, part of my passion for this work stems from the reality that for much of my fight to find recovery I was never afforded a personalized intervention or care management experience, customized to my specific needs. This resulted in participating time and again in treatment programs that were not a good fit for my underlying conditions. I believe treatment professionals should work to fit the client, not the other way around.
Since finding and working in long term recovery, I have made helping others struggling with addiction and mental health challenges my personal and professional passion. I have worked at every level of the addiction continuum including Intervention and Care Management, helping people in the acute detoxification stage, supporting clients in finding appropriate primary care treatment, and working as a recovery coach. I have held positions as Residential Manager in extended care and transitional living settings, as well as the Director of Admissions and Marketing for a nationally recognized treatment facility. I truly have a depth of experience that is invaluable to the clients and families I work with.
I think that it is important for clients to find connection, joy, recreation, and fun in a recovery lifestyle, so I focus on that when working with them. My belief is that it is vital to have “humility, integrity, honesty and a thirst for knowledge,” if one wants to find recovery.
I also believe that recovery starts in with the family! If the families don’t change than its unrealistic to believe that their loved one will change. I love supporting families in a parallel process of recovery.
In my spare time I love spending time with my kids and our dogs in the majestic Roaring Fork Valley. My hobbies include fly fishing, hiking, skiing, biking, and golfing.
